Thanks for downloading "An Apology"!
If you have any comments, questions, concerns, or complaints,
feel free to email me at: alcritas@att.net.
Also, check out my Blades of Exile page, The Lyceum, at:

This scenario is designed for *BEGINNER LEVEL PARTIES ONLY*
Please do not play the scenario with any other type.
The scenario difficulty rating of "MEDIUM" is only done
for reasons of monster HP doubling. I consider this scenario
to be VERY difficult, and several sections are likely to
require multiple playthroughs to achieve success. I especially
recommend that when the scenario suggests moving quickly
that you follow the scenario's advice.
Before playing the scenario, please ensure the custom
graphics file is working properly, as custom graphics
are of VITAL importance to this scenario. PC users
will need a BMP file entitled apologia, MAC users
a MEG file. If the graphics included in the zip file
cannot be read, you can find a GIF file of apologia at:
http://members.dencity.com/Alcritas/apgif.gif
Instructions on creating a MEG or BMP file can be found at:
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/boelyceum/odd/megbmp.html
If you see two soldiers directly to your southwest and
southeast upon beginning the scenario, the graphics file
is working properly.
I'd like to thank the individuals who helped make "An Apology"
possible - my beta testers Simmic, Measle, and Peter Hawkinson,
and those graphical artists who graciously allowed me to
borrow their works - Tim Farland, Aceron, Zaloopa, Draxis, Gil-Glorion,
and especially Relhan. A list of which graphics each of them did
can be found below. All other graphics are either edits or originals
by yours truly.
Finally, I'd like to thank Seth Benardete, whose translation
of The Theatetus I adapated for much of the dialogue between
Euclides and Terpsion, as well as splatterings here and there
throughout the rest of the scenario.
Tim Farland created the Banshee, Mephisto, and the Misc. Golem
Draxis created the Red Rune
Aceron created the Alternate Altar
Zaloopa created the Alternate Portal
Gil-Glorion created the Potion Rack
Relhan created the Warlock, Sage, and the Funny Guy in the Light Blue Robe

Thanks for downloading "Falling Stars"!
If you have any comments, concerns, questions, or complaints,
please feel free to email me at: alcritas@att.net. Or post
a message at The Lyceum's message board:

Updates and further information about Falling Stars may be found
at The Lyceum:
http://home.att.net/~alcritas/index.html
Included in with this file, you should have found falling.exs (the
scenario), falling.bmp (graphics file for PCs), falling.gif, and
UGLI.gif. (Drizzt says that there's an error in the UGLI.gif. He's probably
right. But I'm really just not motivated enough to fix it. Consider it yet
another torture device inflicted upon you be the UGLI.)
If you are on a MAC, you will need to create a MEG file
to play the scenario. Inquiries/information can be made/found at
the above URLs.
This scenario is designed for high to very high level parties.
If you do not have such a party, take a beginner level party
into the scenario - there is a training dungeon at the beginning.
This scenario is a continuation of many of my previous works.
While not necessary to play this scenario, it is strongly suggested
that you play my prior works, especially "Redemption", "An Apology",
and "Lamentations" before beginning "Falling Stars". The party
you play is presumed to have completed "Lamentations".
PLEASE, PLEASE Ensure that the Graphics are working properly
before playing far into the scenario. If you see a portal
directly to your south upon beginning the scenario, the graphics
are working. If not, please contact me before going further.
There are a couple of known BOE bugs which may occur during
this scenario, to which there are no workarounds.
1- Empties, which look like Dwarves, may appear randomly. No one
knows for sure why the BOE editor places them in scenarios, but if
you see one, don't worry too much.
2- Scry Monster may produce the wrong graphic in the Scry Monster
table. This is due to BOE graphical limitations. All the monster
information, however, will be accurate.

Heirs To Theseus
Thanks for downloading! This is a quick,
very short scenario, designed to give players
a unique and difficult tactical challenge.
Apart from this text file, you should have
found two other files in the zip archive -
theseus.exs - the scenario, which you should
place in your Bladscen folder, and theseus.sav -
a saved game file, which you should place in
the main Bladexil folder. In order to enjoy this
scenario, you should ONLY play via the saved
game file, playing with a normal party, even
a beginner party, will rob the scenario of
its challenge and enjoyment.
This scenario is designed as a complement to
another one of my scenarios, "Of Good And Evil"
- and those who have played that scenario will
quickly realize the terrain and the situation.
(The party played here is assumed to be very
distinct from any party that has adventured in
"Of Good And Evil".)
IMPORTANT! - Do not save over the file theseus.sav.

If you want to save your game, make sure you change

the file name.

concerns, comments, or complaints, feel free to contact me at:

"Lamentations" is designed to be played with a high level (25-30)
party. No party maker is included, so it's up to you to supply a
party of the appropriate level. In a pinch, use the training dungeon
in "Redemption".
I'd like to thank my beta testers - Andres Gonzales, Andrew Barton, and
Peter Hawkinson. I'd also like to thank the artists whose work I've
used - Jayne Holt, Steven, Janet Cone, Tim Farland, and especially
Relhan. Below, you will find a list of what each one provided. All
other new artwork is either modifications or originals by myself.
FAQs-
Q: Is this the sequel to "Redemption"?
A: Yes and no. All my scenarios (save "Kalloskagathos") are about the
same general story. This is part of that story, as was Redemption,
but they are not sequels to each other. The party you use here
is presumed to be a different party than the ones that participated
in Redemption, or for that matter any of my scenarios.
Q: I'm on a MAC, and no MEG file is provided. What do I do?
A: You're going to have to create a MEG file yourself, as any
MEG file that touches a PC gets corrupted. You should have found
a GIF file included. Instructions for turning that into a MEG file
can be found at:
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/boelyceum/odd/megbmp.html
Q: I'm stuck. I've just returned from the Jayhawk fort, and need to get
into Cornell's Keep. What do I do?
A: Talk to McSorely again. He'll calm down after some moves, and
provide you with more information.
Q: Alright, I'm in Cornell's Keep, and the graphics seem to be really
screwed up!
A: Assuming you're in the lowest level (the one that's totally dark),
that's intentional. The result on a PC looks fairly cool. On a MAC
it's not as nifty, however. Oh well.
Q: Hmm... I think I've completed the scenario, but things seem to have
ended abruptly. Did I do something wrong?
A: Nope. The scenario was intended merely as setup, and it purposley
leaves a lot of things unresolved.
Q: Help! I used Hegla's Brew, and now I'm stuck! How do I get out of this mess?
A: You should have been more careful, sorry. Load an older saved game file, or use "The Way Out", and start over.

I'd like to express my intense gratitude to Stephen
Masel, Peter Hawkinson, Serene, Andrew Barton,
and Kate for their work beta testing the scenario.
I'd also like to thank DRK DRAXIS (gravestone)
and Tim Farland (Phoenix) for allowing me to
use their graphics.
Several notes :
1. The scenario at several locations utilizes
traditional inventory (eg non-special) items
which are required to advance portions of
the plot. There is NEVER a situation in
which both -
A) An inventory item is required to complete the scenario
AND
B) That inventory item cannot be acquired many times
are both true. However there are circumstances where
normal inventory items ARE required to complete very
useful, but not vital, portions of the scenario. In
some of these circumstances, you will only be given
the particular item once. Therefore, I STRONGLY
recommend that while playing, you make every effort
to keep at least one or two inventory slots open at
all times. On a similiar note, if you find a
peculiar item, you might consider hanging onto it,
or at least storing it.
All items that are required to win the scenario,
and that cannot be acquired multiple times, will appear as
special items.
2. If, for whatever reason, you leave the scenario,
but then come back in with many of the items you
acquired in this scenario, the scenario won't
recongnize them. For example, the rope you bought
can still be sold for 25 gold, but the scenario won't
recognize it as rope in the circumstances when you need
rope. You'll have to buy a new thing of rope.
3. The use of the "Word of Recall" spell is not
recommended. Use of Charm spells in certain areas
might be problematic. Some encounters do not end
until all enemy units have been killed, the game
will not give you credit for charming these units.
You may have to attack friendly, charmed units in
some circumstances to advance.
FAQ's -
Q: What level party should I use?
A: High (18-25), or if you're up for a challenge,
try a Medium (9-18) level party. But better yet, take
a beginner party in, and mention "Train" to
the fort commander of the base you start off in. He'll
direct you to a small dungeon, which will rapidly advance
you to the level and experience best suited for this
scenario.
Q: But it says Very High on the difficulty scale!
A: That's because :
1. I consider it to be a Very Difficult scenario for
reasons beyond simple monster toughness
&
2. I didn't want any monsters doubling hit points
against any borderline medium/high parties. (Some
of them are quite tough enough as it is)
Q: But I keep dying against X Monster with my
high level party!
A: Perhaps there's a better way to combat X
monster. All Monster's are killable in traditional
manners, but many are much weaker/tougher depending
on extraneous actions you might perform. So Bob
The Talking Spider might be super tough but killable
unless you get the bug spray on a side mission, which
makes him only mediocre and very killable.
The scenario has been and can be won using
a begginer party put through the training dungeon.
Q: Is there a walkthrough?

On A Ship To Algiers
A few quick things -
First - the scenario is designed for a beginner
level party, and I recommend against using the
traditional, cookie-cutter approach many players
(including myself) often use. The scenario is
designed to force the player to play a party
distinct from the traditional approaches.
Second - the "R" rating. If there had been a PG-13
option within the game, I gladly would have taken it.
As it was, given some of the themes in the scenario,
I decided to be better safe than sorry, hence the "R"
rating.
Third - there is no walkthrough, but I did include
some hints below. Don't look if you want to avoid spoilers.
Also, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions, comments,

FAQ's -
These cover the most common questions asked of me,
but is in no way an exhaustive list. Feel free to
email me with any other questions, or with these
if the explanations aren't clear.
Q - Who is this Vayla person anyway? And when do I get to
meet her?
A - Vayla is one of the Gods of this world. She makes no
appearance other than through her disciple, Xenophon.
Q - How and when do I get my skills back?
A - You don't, at least not without using the player
character editor. Throughout the scenario, various
people will train you in various ways, giving you
some skills. However, you never regain the skills
you initially lose.
Q - I keep getting stuck in this Foreboding Tower! How
do I get the Staff of Orianna back?
A - To bypass the section with all the teleporters, read
the sign. Each word contains only one cardinal direction
letter (N,S,E,W), follow them in order, starting from
the square directly west of the sign.
Once you get to the Faeries, don't listen to Willy! He's
trying to trick you! Instead, ask Nicky about the Staff,
she'll tell you where to really find it.
Q - I'm stuck! Both towns have been destroyed, and the
entire island is dead! What do I do?
A - Make sure you've done the following three things -
1. Witnessed Meletus Get Killed
2. Visited the shrine, and examined Elaine's body
3. Searched the Slime Cave, and found a body that
gets up after you look at it. It's in the north
central area.
Once you've done all three things, return to Pireaus,
and enter the town hall. Xenophon will be there,
and he can help you proceed with the quest.
Alternately, once you've beaten the Goblins, you can
search the area around the Inn in Shenta. Under a pile
of rocks, you'll find a set of stairs. Climb down
them to proceed, but be warned! The scenario becomes
much tougher without Xenophon's help.
Q - I've killed Anytus, but the Quickfire gets
me! How do I escape the cave?
A - There are two ways. First, if you've gotten
Xenophon's help, he'll be in the room just north
of where Anytus was, but only for a short while.
Go into that room, talk to him, and he'll create
a portal for you to escape the island.
OR
There's a secret passage in the southeast
corner of the cave. It's blocked by a couple
of magic barriers, so you'll need to get
the piercing crystals in the room north
of where Anytus was.

Q - Okay, I've escaped the cave, Anytus is
dead, but now what?
A - Go to the Western Shore. There's a boat
there, that'll take you off the island.

"Redemption" is a Blades of Exile scenario by Ian Klinkhamer, [C] 1999.
It is designed for high level parties, and is rated R.
If you have any comments, questions, concerns, or complaints, feel free
to contact me at: klinkham@juno.com. Before playing, please make sure

the graphics are working properly. Ask the sheep for more information.
There are two ways to play this scenario, to *FINISH* and to *WIN*.
Finshing should prove relatively easy. Winning should be very
difficult. Finishing is likely to leave you wondering exactly what
the heck happened, and is intended to leave many questions unresovled.
There are many distinctions between the two paths, the most notable
being the ending. Each ending will inform you of what you have
achieved, indicating whether you have either finished or won the
scenario.

As of the current version, 1.01, the Hall of Fame is still open. The
Hall of Fame consists of those players who were the first to go above
and beyond the most basic aspects of this scenario, and truly explore
the world. There are four wings of the Hall of Fame. The first wing
will contain the first ten players to win the scenario. To enter this
wing, email me with the results that occurred when you won, and how you
got there. The second wing consists of the first five players to
correctly identify the seven characters who appear in both "Of Good And
Evil" and "Redemption". To enter this wing, email me with their names,
and where you found them. The third wing consists of the first five
players to recover the Amulet of Doran. To enter this wing, email me
telling me how and where you recovered the amulet. The final wing

consists of the first player the enter all three other wings.

*Until each particular wing of the Hall is filled, I will NOT

answer questions about how to complete the requirements of that

I will not answer any questions about how to recover the Amulet of Doran

I will answer general, how-to-finish questions.*

The Staff Of Kayolith
This is my fourth scenario, although more
accurately it could be called my first, as
99% of the work on it was done before "On
A Ship To Algiers" was even begun, as part
of a much larger scenario, that will never
be completed. This scenario is nothing but
one REAL TOUGH dungeon. If you're looking for
a detailed plot, look elsewhere. But if you're
looking for a tough tactical challenge, you have
found it. I would be VERY impressed if any party
managed to recover the staff in their first attempt,
without using the Player Character editor (or wearing
the Doomguard Armor). It is designed for Very High
Level parties, and is rated PG.

This scenario is designed for Very High level parties.
I recommend a 6 PC party, though, in theory, a party of any size
should be able to complete the scenario.
This scenario is a contiunation of many of my previous works. I
STRONGLY recommend playing "Redemption", "An Apology", "Lamentations",
"Falling Stars", and "Signs and Portents" (in that order) prior to
this game. Failure to do so will leave you scratching your head in
many places, and will diminsh your playing experience.
I'd like to thank the graphical artists who made this work possible:
Tim Farland - Hades, Banshee, Fell Drake, Voodo Golem, Moon Knight,
Kung-Fu Master,
Relhan - Warmaster, Flail Master, Magus, Order Mage, Banne, Stairways,
Fire Wisp, Shadow Warrior
Shawn Lonergan - Golden Dervish
Zaloopa - Portal
Cthulu - Seraphim
DRK Draxis - Pulsing Rune
Motrax - Black Robed Priest
Daniel Ray - Mystic Priest
Aceron - Dwarf Warrior, Ice Sword
Jayne Holt - Archbishop
(White Floor Set Unknown)
...and especially Falcatta (Luz), whose wonderful graphics
enabled me to even think about making this scenario in the
first place - Dark Wall Set, Stone PC, Generator, Raven,
Sage Talking Graphic, Beige Wall Set.
I've had a lot of good beta-testers, but my testing team on this
scenario was nothing short of phenomenal. To whatever extent this
scenario works, it works because of their hard work and excellent
suggestions. Stareye, The Creator (Barcoorah), and Terror's Martyr
deserve most of whatever credit this scenario receives.
I'd also like to thank Stareye and The Creator for their innovations,
which were used in this scenario.
Lyrics from Natalie Merchant, David Byrne, and Chris Cornell are found
in this scenario.
