Creatures in town can be part of a special encounter which is a number from 1-10 and they can then be spawned as a group by a special node. Setting these encounters up is not very intuitive in the scenario editor.

  • the creature advanced details dialog has a text box for the encounter number. It says (0 - none) but doesn't mention 1-10 are the valid choices to have an encounter.

  • the One-Time Place Town Enc. special node tells you the range is 0..10 but doesn't mention 0 would be a no-op.

  • Both of these places could have a picker button and show an editable string picker, and we let the designer name each encounter.

  • It would be nice if creature encounter numbers were drawn next to them in the terrain window, maybe on a small terrain icon.

Now, getting into less trivial territory:

  • We could have an 'Edit Town Encounters' action let you pick one of the 10 encounters to edit. This would open a dialog showing which creatures are in the encounter, and allow you to add and remove them.

I think we shouldn't be limited to a maximum of 10 encounters.

I like this idea.

It would be nice if creature encounter numbers were drawn next to them in the terrain window, maybe on a small terrain icon.

Hmm, if I recall correctly, we do have all the digits in the terrain icon set, but… given that encounter 10 is valid, and ideally 11, 12, etc also would be, I'm not sure how viable it is to use terrain icons for this. Multiple icons are shown vertically after all, right? So it's not just a simple matter of adding the icon for 1 followed by the icon for 0 if it's encounter 10.

We could have an 'Edit Town Encounters' action let you pick one of the 10 encounters to edit. This would open a dialog showing which creatures are in the encounter, and allow you to add and remove them.

This sounds pretty complicated… we'd have to put a lot of thought into how it actually works.
